Cynthia Stitt named as Top NC Public Health Nurse
A Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services staff member has been named a Distinguished Public Health Nurse in North Carolina. Cynthia Stitt is among 100 recipients selected by a review committee of Public Health Nursing peers from across the state to receive the 100 Distinguished Public Health Nurses in NC award.
“Being selected is a tremendous distinction and demonstrates that you stand out as a leader in our nursing specialty,” wrote the PHN selection committee, congratulating each recipient on this well-deserved recognition.
Before entering into Public Health, Stitt served five and a half years as an Officer in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. During her 23 year public health nurse career, Stitt has had the opportunity to work in several areas of public health nursing including as a maternity care coordinator, Director of Nursing and Compliance Manager. She is also an avid community volunteer and holds leadership roles on numerous local and state-wide boards and committees.
“Public Health Nursing is not just a career for me, it's my calling to serve others and partnering with them on their journey”, shared Stitt. “It is an opportunity to care for others no matter what walk of life. A Public Health Nurse is a hero who connects many dots to promote and protect the health of the population. It is not just what we do as a Public Health Nurse; it is why we do what we do that defines our value system.”
A listing of all award recipients is available on the N.C. Public Health Nursing Community Facebook page, and an awards luncheon will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro to honor the recipients.
