Birth & Death Certificates (Gaston County)

Our office has birth and death records for Gaston County citizens who were born or died in Gaston County from 1913 to the present day. Anyone born in Gaston County in that time can obtain a copy of their birth certificate in our office unless they have been adopted.

Only a mother, father, brother, sister, grandparent, or spouse may obtain someone else's birth or death certificate with proper ID.

Certified Gaston County birth and death certificates are $10 each when obtained in our office.

There are three ways to request certified certificates of Gaston County Births and Deaths:

• Online through our Vital Records Portal (a service fee of $3.50 from a third party vendor will apply)
• In our office (payable by cash or card) - located at the Gaston County Courthouse | 325 Dr. M.L.K., Jr. Way | Gastonia, NC 28052
• By mail (payable by check or money order) - fill out the Application for Certified Copy of Vital Records (PDF) and mail to the following address:

Out of County Births & Adoptions

NC Births outside of Gaston County

The Gaston County Register of Deeds Office now offers a service for statewide births from 1971 forward. Anyone born in NC in that time frame (other than adoptions) may request a copy of their birth certificate in our office (in person only). The cost for this service is $24, payable by cash or card (this fee is set by the state).
