Internship Opportunities

The Gaston County Police Internship Program offers an exciting and rewarding experience for college students. Our program exposes college students to the many facets of law enforcement through hands-on training and practical exercises. Gaston County Police Interns are paired with the department's personnel to assist with day to day operations of the police department. The goal of our internship program is to prepare and develop qualified college students to begin a career in law enforcement, preferably with our police department.

The Gaston County Police Department accepts one intern per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Internship hours range from a minimum of 120 hours up to 280 hours. Before completing the Internship Packet, candidates should read the qualifications listed below:

Qualifications

  • Candidates must currently be enrolled in a college or university
  • Meet and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete an oral interview
  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete a background investigation

Expectations

  • Be willing to work varying hours depending on the assignment at hand
  • Remain professional when dealing with the department's citizens and employees
  • Possess Strong communication skills (Oral and written)
  • Must have computer skills
  • Dress in a professional manner, in accordance with Gaston County Police Department's policy
  • Arrive on time to all assignments

Internship Deadlines

  • Fall Internship Deadline: June 1st
  • Spring Internship Deadline: November 1st
  • Summer Internship Deadline: April 1st
