At approximately 11:06 PM on May 2, 2023, an on-duty Gaston County Police officer was involved in a motor vehicle collision with another passenger car at the intersection of Dallas-Cherryville Highway and Beaver Dam Way, near Bessemer City. Both drivers were transported to Caromont Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this collision, and the Gaston County Police Department is conducting a parallel internal investigation. The names of the officer or involved citizen are not being released at this time. Per Gaston County Police Department policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
