Gaston County has been awarded $132,000 by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) under the 2023 cycle of the Urgent Repair Program to assist Gaston County residents. This program provides funds to assist very-low and low-income households in addressing housing conditions that pose imminent threats to their life and/or safety or in providing accessibility modifications and other repairs necessary to prevent displacement. URP funding is overseen by the NCHFA with funds coming from the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund.

Eligibility
To be eligible for assistance applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must reside within Gaston County and own and occupy the home in need of repair.
- Must have a household income which does not exceed 50% of the County median income for the household size.
- Must have a special need (e.g., be elderly, handicapped, or disabled) be a veteran, a single parent with a dependent living at home, a large family with 5 household members or a household with a child below six with lead hazards in the home.
- Must have urgent repair needs that cannot be met through other state of federally funded housing assistance programs.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
Applications are available to the public beginning September 1st, 2023 and must be submitted by September 30th, 2023. Applications received on or after September 30th, 2023 will be placed on a waiting list for any unused funds.
