[ARCHIVED] Lowell Police and Gaston County Police Investigate Homicide

On Thursday August 4th, 2022 at 7:09 pm, multiple local law enforcement agencies responded to the intersection of Redbud Drive & Wilkinson Blvd. in reference to a vehicle accident with injuries.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered a multi-vehicle crash.  While conducting patient assessments, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  Several patients were transported to Caromont Regional Medical Center for treatment. The gunshot victim was pronounced deceased on scene.  The victim’s identification is not being released at this point due to the pending family notification.

Gastonia Police officers located a suspect fleeing the area on foot.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  After consulting with the Gaston County District Attorney’s Office, the suspect, who is a juvenile, has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder.  The suspect is currently in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Due to their age, the suspect’s information is not being released.

Lowell Police Department is leading the investigation and the Gaston County Police are assisting.  Numerous agencies assisted in the initial response including Gastonia Police, Gaston County Sheriff’s Office, Ranlo Police, Cramerton Police, Gaston Emergency Medical Services, Lowell Fire Department, and Ranlo Fire Department.

The investigation is on-going.
