Gaston County Police Chief's Association Announce Operation BOLO
The Gaston County Police Chief’s Association will be kicking off an initiative focusing on safe driving practices this Thursday August 22nd, 2019 at 10:00 am. The event will take place at Robinson Elementary located at 3122 Union Road in Gastonia. Local Police Chiefs and the Gaston County Sheriff will be speaking about traffic safety. There will also be a demonstration of a traffic crash simulator.
The initiative, Operation BOLO “Be On the Look Out for our children” will last from August 19th- August 30th, 2019.
Operation BOLO’s purpose is to educate the residents of Gaston County that school is back in session, be aware of speeds in school zones and watch for children getting on and off of school buses as well as distracted driving.
There are two (2) phases:
Phase 1: Education through various media outlets.
During the week of August 19-23, law enforcement agencies across the county will be focusing on different aspects of school travel and safety.
- Monday — Passing School Bus Laws
- Tuesday — School Zone Laws
- Wednesday — Seat Belts & Child Safety Seats
- Thursday — Pedestrian Crossing Safety
- Friday — Distracted Driving
Phase 2: Observation and Enforcement in school zones
During the back to school week August 26-30 agencies across Gaston County will conduct speed enforcement in marked school zones.
At the conclusion of the initiative, a press release containing information of all educational and enforcement activities will be distributed to local media outlets.
